Developing one-part alkali-activated metakaolin/natural pozzolan binders using lime waste

Among the several schemes that have been reported to be a satisfactory alternative Portland cement is alkali-activated cement, which has recently started receive greater consideration in construction sectors. Conventional two-part alkali activation many drawbacks, including activating solution viscous, problematic and not user friendly handle. Thus, aim of this research produce one-part metakaolin/natural pozzolan, by using an earth alkaline source (rich calcium oxide) from waste material (lime kiln dust), as precursor break alumina-silicate crystalline phases. Thermal treatment materials at two levels (450°C 950°C) was used assisted approach. Analytical techniques, X-ray powder diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy scanning electron microscopy, were utilised investigate performance developed molecular level. Reduction peaks, well appearance new wollastonite minerals within calcined lime dust, contributed development 27 MPa compressive strength after 28 days.
